Why befuddled? Atheists and luciferians use religion against people. Mainly by perception, through the media. I would say it's the same strategy employed by 'christian' conservatives when they used fake terror like 9/11 or 7/7, or real terror carried out by CIA jihadists to foster christian/secular fear of Muslim hordes to manipulate the western world into invasions and occupations of Islamic states.
Western horde, Muslim horde, same difference. Why stand on the side of the heterodox? Look at Serbia in 99. Western backed Jihadists destabilize a nation then along comes NATO bombing holy places. Western Christians the world over were cheering them on, so brainwashed they are! The Kosovo Muslims were escaping into Serbia! Why do Orthodox ally with heterodox over these issues now? 9/11 and trusting the news too much.
The religion of Antichrist - Non-dogmatic, inclusive and pantheistic - is more and more what people are turning to as they see Christians and Muslims so easily manipulated into violence, be it invasion, revolution, terrorism, whatever. This is especially true in alternative media, where the new-age, Gnostic, luciferian path is seen more and more as a solution to constant strife between religions.

My friend asked recently why we can't all just be united? After all, doesn't the bible say all men were created equal? I had to correct him that it is not the bible that says that but some American political document, the constitution or something. That's the power of this American protestant worldview through the mass media.
