Southern California Fires - Glendora incident

Post by Maria »

Please pray for those of us who live in Southern California, especially the Los Angeles Basin.

Currently there is a fire in the Los Angeles Forest near Glendora (East of LA) that is over 4,100 acres. The smoke is polluting the air throughout the LA Basin and has imparted an orangish hue to the morning and afternoon skies. This smoke puts elderly citizens, asthmatics, and newborns with poorly developed lungs at risk.

Apparently, the fire is in such a difficult mountainous terrain that it will take about a week to get it under control. It seems like they are also trying to let it burn to control the undergrowth and fuel base to prevent future wildfires. We have not had a fire in this area in many years.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

The Williams fire continues to burn out of control. Please pray for those of us in Southern California.
Other fires in Southern California are contributing to the smoky skies.

Here is another link about the Williams Fire.

This is a better story with an interactive google map:

The map makes it clear that this area was not burned during the Station Fire. Hence, there are two decades of brush with a lot of fuel.

New Fire in Southern/Central California at Lockwood Valley near Frazier Peak:

LOCKWOOD VALLEY (FRAZIER PARK), CALIFORNIA (Monday, Sept. 3 at 12:45 p.m.)--Photographer Gunnar Kuepper received this briefing from Kern County Fire Department Battalion Cheif Kirk Kushen: The fire is at 25-30 acres, zero percent contained, four air tankers are enroute, in addition to three helicopters already on-scene. Fire command personnel have advised that west Lockwood Valley residents evacuate because there is concern that the wind could pick up and drive the fire into residential areas.

Update: the air quality is a little better.

We had Tropical Depression John come and drop some needed rain.
Firefighters appreciated the dew from heaven.
The fire is now 45% contained. Praise the Lord.
However, the fire has burned 4200 acres.

News media over at a weather channel posted a pillar of fire (fire tornado).
I have never seen such a raging inferno produce a fire tornado.

Thanks for your prayers.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
