Please Pray that I'll be more Compassionate

Post by JamesR »

I can be a somewhat bitter person. I have trouble feeling compassion for others and dealing with emotions--especially since I came from a somewhat uncompassionate household, and I know that this is a very serious problem. Please pray for me so that I could feel compassion for my fellow man and overcome this bitterness.

"'Blessed are the peacemakers' For those are peacemakers in themselves who, in conquering and subjecting to reason all the motions of their souls and having their carnal desires tamed, have become in themselves a Kingdom of God."-St. Augustine of Hippo (Confessions)

Lord have mercy.

Do you have the Akathist to the Sweetest Jesus?
It is a beautiful prayer that helps to calm and heal the soul.

Here is one source below, or it may be found in another prayer book.
A Prayer Book for Orthodox Christians, Holy Transfiguration Monastery, Boston, MA, 2000, p. 199.

  • Seeing the widow weeping bitterly, O Lord,
    Thou was moved with compassion, and
    didst raise up her son as he was being carried to burial;
    likewise do Thou have compassion on me, O Friend of man,
    and raise up my soul, which hath been slain by sins,
    as I cry out aloud: Alleluia.

    Seeking to know knowledge unknown,
    Philip asked: Lord, show us the Father;
    and Thou didst answer him:
    Have I been so long with you,
    and yet thou hast not known
    that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?
    Wherefore, O Unsearchable One,
    with fear I cry unto Thee:

    Jesus, God before the ages.
    Jesus, King Almighty.
    Jesus, Master long-suffering.
    Jesus, Savior most merciful.
    Jesus, my Guardian most kind.
    Jesus, be gracious to my sins.
    Jesus, take away mine iniquities.
    Jesus, pardon mine unrighteousness.
    Jesus, my Hope, forsake me not.
    Jesus, my Helper, reject me not.
    Jesus, my Creator, forsake me not.
    Jesus, my Shepherd, lose me not.

    • Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me
      (p. 200-201).

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
