RIGHTEOUS PERSONS OF GENUINE ORTHODOXY

The late monk Gennadius, born, grown, fought and reposed in the Evander big island of Crete that shows great figures of our ecclesiastical history, and during this century of ecclesiological confusion fighters Priests of the Traditional Church as the Archbishop Matthew, the Metropolitans Meletios of Attica and Eumenios of Heraclion, priests as Konstantinos Stamatakis and Charalambos Steiradakis etc.

He was born in the year 1875, has grown amid in the Orthodox and spiritual environment, and soon therefore he let embraced the monastic life, following the desert life. In his Monastery in Rethymno (Akoumia) of the Saint Ann and remained until his death, that is 80 consecutive years. There he exercised in the monastic life and never accepted the Papal innovation of the New Calendar, condemned the schism of the New Calendar, condemned the schism of New- calendarist Church and Ecumenism of the Ecclesiastical Authority of Crete, or the Ecumenical Patriarchate and never refused Orthodoxy, but from cradle to grave he remained united with the True Church. For this reason, he was suffered many persecutions, both from the schismatic Archbishop of Crete Eugene Psalidakis and Metropolitans of Lambis and Sfakia, in which lies his Hermitage.

His struggles for true Orthodoxy highlight him as a Confessor, his life as clear from the testimony of the inhabitants of Akoumia, not only the Orthodox but also the New- calendarists, set him in the part of the Righteous saints. The exercise and the gift of his life to God gave him naturally the great grace of Holy Spirit and for this he had divine gifts and prophesies. As the pious people say, he was endowed by the gift of proactive and oftentimes. Therefore he foretold events that occurred after the year, including the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

He met closely the late Archbishop Matthew. Always he mentioned in discussions with respect to the face of the Cretan First- Hierarch, whose Ecclesiastical work recognized and highly honored.
During the last years of his life, he had as spiritual father the Hieromonk Fr Callinicos Selliniotakis (+2003). After 80 years of exercise and at the age of 108 years, on March 3, 1983, Wednesday Shrovetide, he was called upon by Lord, having claimed back righteous fee. He slept the sleep of the law, just 4 hours after his last confession and partaking of Holy Communion.
The last of the mortgages were the Orthodox faith and the life in Christ. To the bystanders said a little before he reposed: "This life is hopeless. Have your mind in the (orthodox) calendar”. His funeral was in Akoumia amid emotive events of people who mourned the loss as being deprived of St Man. May the Lord give to us the faith and the virtue of the saint Elder.
