Re: Putin: missing for 9 days; his bodyguard killed
I hadn't heard about the bodyguard ! That may have some possibility of being a destabilization operation in preparation for US-UK-conducted regime change in the RF. As for Putin's dropping out of sight, I favor the explanation of the secret trip to Switzerland. I always did think there was something...

Re: On keeping the fast - St. Philaret of New York
These are both MARVELOUS sermons ! How great a speaker was Metropolitan Philaret the Great...what I like to call him. Of course, he humbly refers to his Moscow namesake from the 19th century, Met. Philaret {Drozdov}, if my memory serves me correctly as to name in the world. Both are great luminaries...

That last sentence is new information for me : interesting. Too, to corroborate the story of the former Rocor Monk cited by Jonathan, I repeat the story told by Abbot D. of St Paisius Monastery in Forestville, CA, the hub of activity in that decade for the St Herman Brotherhood. More actual work see...

Re: Canons prohibiting laity or clergy from acting on stage?
Today was the day of a Martyr Gelasios of Hieropolis. He was named "the Actor". I thought that was worth investigating.
But there was seemingly no material in English online. Perhaps he was a former actor who converted to Christianity,
as his date of martyrdom is given as 297.

Re: First Vigil Lamp
I see this Eastern Christian Supply is from the Etna monastery. Seems most of their products are Bulgarian. While that doesn't appeal to me, here is one perhaps unusual offering, called "Icon Scarves". I checked that, expecting to see Icons silk-screened onto scarves - ! But in fact they a...

Re: First Vigil Lamp
Meanwhile, I discovered what I can see now is an Athonite-style wick and cotton thread in a distant drawer this very day. Good timing on the resurrecting of this thread ! I had not the faintest clue how to use it in a lampada all these years, maybe 15 or more. It would be great to finally follow cle...

Re: On John (Maximovitch) of San Francisco and the ROCOR
What a relief ! I have been dreading that day [as one can tell by my alarm at the halo around fr Seraphim [Rose] at the ClassicalChristianity site. Elsewhere too. I consider that SO overdone. So, do you assume that the access to the remains of any candidate being remotely considered for glorificatio...
