What is schism?

A small question- What is schism? Behold the answer- Schism is a verb, therefore it is an act, not a belief or teaching or attitude or scandal or anything immaterial. It is the act of leaving. Therefore- it would seem all schismatics are those who, down through time, have physically been the ones to...

Re: How are bishops in the ROCOR and in the GOC-K espousing ecumenism?

What part of me trying to discern is unclear or reticent or deceptive or a refusal to disclose to you?

Since 2015 I have not formally joined any synod, I remain formally Catholic.

Re: Seraphim Rose on the Matthewites

I have noticed over the years you focus very much on the acts of other laity. Who cares what the laity do? The question is- what does their bishop teach? How does he maintain the confession of faith? I wouldn’t give credence to second or third hand accounts of how laity are involved in other churche...

Re: How are bishops in the ROCOR and in the GOC-K espousing ecumenism?

Ah, now you are promoting the "Cyprianist" position not only of Met Chrysostomos of Florina, but also of the late Bishop Cyprian of the Synod in Resistance. In this age filled with ecumenism, we will never have a Pan-Orthodox Council that is truly Orthodox. Look at the recent robber-counc...

Re: How are bishops in the ROCOR and in the GOC-K espousing ecumenism?

St. Photius lived long before the Great Schism of 1054. His position cannot be compared with that of St. Matthew as the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church during the time of St. Photius had a strained relationship, but there was no schism at that time. The Catacomb Bishops also cannot be...

Re: Seraphim Rose on the Matthewites

My point to Justice was that in discerning the various synods to keep this in mind- When considering this question there are necessary distinctions to keep in mind- Scandalous behavior is not intrinsically schismatic, but it can provoke schism in others. The sin of scandal is a two way street. It is...

Re: Seraphim Rose on the Matthewites

I was referring to this- “Read the life of St. Nectarios of Aegina. Did not the New Calendarist Bishop of Athens persecute the saint and even hasten his death by demanding that St. Matthew come to see him by riding a donkey when the saint was very sick, dying, and in a lot of pain.” You meant St. Ne...
